- Same thing with the Elderberry, it's poisonus raw, but after cooking, you get delicious jam and juice.
- Your channel is so informative. Thanks!
- alright dude. you got my subscription. Nutrients, recipe's, telling when it is ripe. ya, what I've been looking for.
- I have made raw juice with black chokeberries and it is fantastic! The astringency comes from the skins. Just pound the raw berries in a deep container to release the juices and then separate the skins and seeds by wringing them out inside a nut-milk bag and drink the juice raw. The nut-milk bag will become permanently stained , but it is well worth it.
- Thank you :-)
- its arsenic...
- @umbalaba I'm not really sure what it is, but it doesn't make it into the gelatin.
- @cx420ns you're strong. I don't know if i could handle it.
- Hey Daniel, what poison is in the chokeberry pit? Is the poison only dissolvable in oil or will some of it dissolve in the cooking water and get into the gelatin?
- where i'm from we call them chokecherries. i don't know how many times i've gone picking them along the train tracks. used to eat them right off the bush, but i love sour =p
- @aglanceatmyworld I certainly wouldn't be surprised! Makes perfect sense, especially as there would have been large populations of Native Americans in the areas that also grow chokeberries.
- I wonder if chokeberries were ever used for dying fabric. I know the Native Americans used to use berries and things for dyes and it looks like chokeberries would make a really pretty color...hehe the crafty side of me is showing :)
- @margowsky Nope, just the seeds and stems.
- @MsBlooz87 that's a GREAT idea!
